This is a 10 hour educational series, topics include but are not limited to the following:
1 – Shoplifting Compulsive Behavior Therapy. Shoplifting Compulsive Behavior and its Cycle of Dependency. Participants gain insight into how they get “in the mood” to shoplift, what rituals they develop (adrenalin rush from rituals), the rush they get from actually taking the items, and the feeling of helplessness and hopelessness afterwards.
2 – Value Clarifications to resolve Criminal Thinking Errors. Cognitive Restructuring and Reframing for Destructive Criminal Thinking Errors such as closed channel thinking, victim stance entrenchment, lack of effort and lack of interest in responsible performance.
3 – Shoplifting History/Inventory. This form deals with number of times one has stolen, from whom, how he/she felt, as well as reasons for shoplifting.
4 – Relapse Prevention Strategies. We will deal with high-risk relapse situations and how to create and implement a relapse prevention plan for each one.
5 – Forgiveness of Self. Participants will address their self-defeating and destructive behavioral patterns. Includes a restitution plan for those they have victimized as well as gaining victim empathy.
6 – Recovery Plan of Action. Clients will implement an addiction recovery plan that includes establishing physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual objectives.
Compulsive Behavior Therapy
We also offer a "light" version of our Theft Addiction Counseling or Compulsive Behavior Therapy for some first time offenders. The goal of our Theft class is to assist participants to achieve and maintain total abstinence from shoplifting.
